Wednesday evening Danshui English Conversation Corner
August 3rd
Topic: Embrace the Chaos
When things get confusing and messed up, you can make one of two choices. You can complain about things or you can try to accept and even embrace what live has given us!
After a short discussion about the things that we get bothered by, we read a story about a woman who learned accept and embrace things while getting caught in a rain shower!
It was encouraging for the students, as they took time to look at their lives and see how they can flow with and even become motivated by the obstacles that they face instead of being discouraged by them.
August 17th:
Topic: Home grown Happiness
Happiness is something that can comes from the inside of us, and we have a definite choice as to whether we want to decide to be happy or not. We took some time tonight to read quotes from several authors regarding what part we personally play in staying happy! It was a good forum for discussion, as right now many people are taught to believe that happiness comes from things and circumstances, and getting what they want. Our final conclusion was that true happiness comes from accepting and appreciating what we already have!
August 24th:
Topic: Healing and Health
After a game of Pictionary, we read an interesting story from the Bible about healing. A woman who had been sick for a long time was healed because she believed! We talked about sickness, as well as the need for exercise and proper body care. Everyone gets sick sometimes, but a positive attitude, faith, and proper living can help us to recover speedily and prevent future illness.
August 31st : How to escape from Quicksand
Tonight we played the ‘Question game’ where everyone took turns asking each other different questions. Then we read an article about ‘Quicksand’. Many years ago, quicksand used to be something that was portrayed in books and movies as the greatest fear! Now days that has changed drastically! But we all face quicksand of different sorts. Everyone told us what is the quicksand that they face, whether school, issues with friends, or other various problems.
In real life, quicksand doesn’t actually cause you to sink more than waist deep. Escaping quicksand is very possible if we stay peaceful, trusting, patient and restful. Your attitude affects your performance!
