What is English Corner?
English Corner is an English conversation club hosted by FISAT volunteers in Dansui township, Taipei county. The club was started in April, 2008 and attracts university and high school students from various areas of Taipei.
Club night, held each Wednesday evening, is centered around a life topic such as family relations, stress management, positivity, effective communication, etc. Club activities such as reading, group discussion and lively routines of games and songs are all conducted in English and centered around the topic of the week.

Why English Corner?
Students in Taiwan have the desire and the interest to learn English and spend a lot of time studying textbooks and language courses, but seldom have much opportunity to practice speaking English and make progress in becoming comfortable with a foreign language.
The competitive or pressurized learning environments experienced by many students also contribute to students’ lack of confidence in themselves and their abilities.
The goals of English Corner:
- To provide a positive and relaxed learning environment where students are supported in developing their language skills and gaining confidence in expressing themselves in English.
- To positively influence the students’ lives and encourage EQ growth through the character-building content of the club classes.
